ZDNet: After months of vague promises about when it would deliver Windows 8, Microsoft has finally set a date: October 26. That’s when consumers will be able to buy Windows 8 PCs or to purchase upgrades from previous versions of Windows. Microsoft had previously announced that the OS would reach the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) stage by the first week in August.

Microsoft made the announcement at the Microsoft Global Exchange Conference in Atlanta, an event for the company’s sales force.
