Speculation Rises over Potential Facebook Bid for Opera Browser

The Wall Street Journal: Is Facebook about to buy Opera? Over the holiday weekend, rumors swirled that social networking giant was interested in the Norwegian firm known for its popular mobile browser. On Tuesday, Opera’s stock price surged to the highest level in two years.

Several financial analysts have been contributing to the speculation that Facebook would purchase Opera. For example, Christer Roth, an analyst at DnB, said “I have been flagging for some kind of strategic partnership between Opera and Facebook ever since we heard Facebook’s Chief Technology Officer [Bret Taylor] outline Facebook’s mobile strategy at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.”
