eWeek: According to a new report from e-mail security specialist Eleven, e-mail-borne attacks are on the rise. Efforts to shut down botnets led to a slight decline in spam volumes in the first quarter of this year, but since then, volumes have climbed 54.8 percent. The company also identified 52.4 percent more e-mail containing malware and 90 percent more e-mail carrying viruses in the second quarter.

The report also noted a rise in highly-targeted spam and phishing campaigns. For example, Eleven identified campaigns that spoofed Amazon’s German site and spam campaigns related to the Summer Olympics.
