HP has revamped its enterprise storage portfolio, adding new 3PAR StoreServ arrays and HP StoreOnce backup hardware. The company now has a single architecture across its range of storage hardware for medium to large enterprises.
InformationWeek’s Deni Connor noted, “HP on Monday at HP Discover in Frankfurt, Germany, introduced storage products in what the company says is its largest storage launch ever. HP converged its storage arrays into a new family, the HP StoreServ; introduced a new file and object-based system, the HP StoreAll; and rolled out HP StoreOnce Backup, a deduplication platform for SMBs, enterprise-size businesses and service providers. HP’s converged storage is designed to serve the primary storage needs of its mid-range to large customers, while providing data protection, information analytics and retention services, the company said. It supports block, object and file-based storage and accommodates both hard disk drives and solid state drive storage.”
Chris Preimesberger from eWeek reported, “HP is, in fact, unveiling a whole new storage model: Its rebuilt 3PAR StoreServ arrays and HP StoreOnce backup hardware products, capable of multi-petabyte capacities for big data workloads, embody new-generation designs, but the twist is that they use the same code base as previous 3PAR and StoreOnce versions. This enables the transition from an older system to a new one to be all but painless, HP said.”
The Register’s Timothy Prickett Morgan wrote, “As you might imagine, HP has set its sights on rival and industry juggernaut EMC, and says it can cover all the various storage needs in the data centre with fewer products than EMC offers to do the same.”
CRN quoted HP’s Craig Nunes, who said, “This is the biggest thing we’ve done for storage for years. And it marks a milestone for us.”
