Ars Technica: Google has launched a new program called “Screenwise” that pays Internet users for allowing the company to track their browsing. The program has two different levels. Publicly, Google is offering anyone who downloads a special tracking extension for their browser a $5 Amazon gift card, plus another $5 for every three months they stick with the program.

More quietly, Google is also recruiting people who would be willing to install a special piece of hardware that does more extensive data collection. Deploying the “black box” earns participants $100, plus $20 per month.
