Computerworld: Research firm Gartner is predicting that the software as a service (SaaS) market will grow 17.9 percent this year to reach $14.5 billion. They expect that growth trend to continue through 2015 as potential customers become more familiar with how SaaS works and vendors offer more PaaS products.

The firm says that North American customers will spend $9.1 billion on SaaS this year, making it the region with the highest SaaS revenue. Western Europe will come in second with $3.2 billion in revenue, followed by Asia-Pacific ($934.1 million), Japan ($495.2 million) and Latin America ($419.7 million). The firm expects SaaS sales in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa to remain small.
