Chrome or IE? Who Won the May Browser Wars?

PCMag: Two different research firms are reporting two very different views of which browser was the most popular during May. StatCounter says that Google’s Chrome was number one, the first time it took first place for an entire month. However, Net Applications said Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was still the most popular, with Firefox and Chrome in a virtual tie for second and third place. The two reports use different methods to calculate browser popularity. StatCounter tracks page views, while Net Applications tracks unique users. The two also weight various countries differently.

Chrome’s senior vice president, Sundar Pichai, said the news was good for the Google browser, no matter how you look at it. “You can argue about the data, but in general I think we have gained substantial mindshare since we’ve launched the product,” he said.
