So you’re enjoying all your smartphone has to offer but just as the day is winding down and you’re waiting for that last phone call, your battery dies. You already have the backlight low and screen shutting off after 3 idle minutes. What more can you do to reduce battery consumption without turning it off? Here are some suggestions:
Turn the volume down to the lowest setting that works for you. Click or touch the speaker icon in the upper-right corner of your screen and pull down the volume slider. You can independently set the volume for the phone and for the other alerts made by the device. When you’re not within Wi-Fi range, or if you’re driving and won’t need the Wi-Fi, shut it off so you don’t waste battery power searching. From the Windows menu, select Settings and then the Connections tab. Tap Wireless Manager (or Comm Manager). Click on the wireless connection to turn it off (an x will appear). To turn it back on, simply click again. Only make your device visible to other Bluetooth devices when you actually want to connect. Have Bluetooth turned off at all other times. From Windows’Settings click the Connections tab and choose Bluetooth. Click the Mode tab and make sure Turn on Bluetooth is NOT checked. Obviously, when you’re ready to use Bluetooth you simply check the box. Same with the Beaming feature. Only turn it on when you want to use it. From Windows’Settings and the Connections tab, choose Beam and then look to see that the “Receive all incoming beams” option is NOT checked.
When you’re stationary and you want your device to roam, turn on your Wi-Fi but plug your Smartphone into a wall jack so the battery’s fully charged when you’re next on the move.
