Summer slowdown? Don’t tell the folks at Intel. The chip giant has several announcements planned over the next 10 days, internetnews.com has learned.
Details are sketchy, but expect to hear news in the coming weeks related to Intel’s up-and-coming dual core processors, and how fast Intel is ramping up to meet demand.
Expect an update on Itanium and Xeon later this week, sources told internetnews.com. As noted in Intel’s conference call with analysts last week, the chipmaker has the happy problem of struggling to keep up with demand in some areas.
And even as Intel looks to better deal with demand for its current products, the company has scheduled a briefing for later today (Monday) for what it says will be a major manufacturing update to support future platform-related initiatives.
internetnews.com will have a report on this announcement, which will include a briefing and Q&A by Intel’s Bob Baker, senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Technology and Manufacturing Group.
Finally, early next month sources say Intel will reveal in detail its plans to address the so-called digital divide certain emerging markets face in trying to keep up with the technological advances of its neighbors and even within its own borders. Intel has specific programs in mind for such diverse markets as Bangalore, Cairo, Sao Paolo and Shanghai. A pre-briefing document says Intel will discuss a tailor-made solution based on local research. Additionally, Intel will expound on its belief that a comprehensive approach involving infrastructure and working within the local ecosystem are the answers to help emerging markets increase technology usage and computer literacy.
Over the weekend, wire service Associated Press reported that Intel had denied that it plans a $4 billion plant in southern Israel.
Although Prime Minister Ariel Sharon reportedly told his cabinet on Sunday that Intel would build a manufacturing plant there, an Intel spokesman told the AP no decision has been reached.
