MADRID and AUSTIN, Texas — Telefónica Tech and Oracle are working together to offer cloud computing services across Telefónica’s customer base.

Telefónica and Oracle will jointly offer cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and applications to Telefónica’s enterprise and public sector customers, according to Oracle last month.

Under the global partnership, Telefónica Tech will offer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services as part of its portfolio as well as support customers through professional and managed services. OCI provides cloud infrastructure for mission-critical and cloud-native workloads.

Oracle’s hybrid and multicloud strategy “aligns closely” with Telefonica’s goal of ensuring all customer data is hosted regionally or in country when possible, with customers having a cloud solution that “meets their data sovereignty needs.”

Telefónica Tech’s managed and professional cloud services portfolios include PaaS and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings. The company has a team of over 3,000 professionals with certifications in cloud services and cybersecurity.

To support the “increasing demand” for cloud services in Spain, Telefónica will also become the host partner for the Oracle Cloud Madrid Region, Oracle’s first in Spain.

The cloud region will be designed to provide Spanish customers with secure, low-latency cloud services and address their country data residency and compliance requirements.

Last September, Telefónica España and Oracle entered a multi-year agreement to migrate the operator’s mission-critical commercial and operational systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as well as accelerate the development of communication services for businesses.

“We are complementing Telefonica’s robust cloud services offering with a cloud platform that has seen strong growth over the last year, as customers all over the world use it to run their most mission-critical workloads in the cloud,” said Albert Triola, SVP and country leader, Oracle Spain.

“This agreement reaffirms our commitment to providing Spanish businesses and public sector entities with a secure and scalable cloud services platform.”

María Jesús Almazor, CEO of cybersecurity and cloud at Telefónica Tech, said one of the “key drivers for success in the cloud market is to help our customers in their digital transformation, by offering a complete and differential portfolio with the support of reference partners.”

Almazor said the partnership will strengthen Telefónica’s “strategic positioning in PaaS as well as reinforce our value proposition in databases and middleware applications.”
