ARMONK, N.Y. and MELBOURNE, Australia — IBM is expanding its consulting presence in the Australian and New Zealand cloud computing market via acquisition.

IBM acquired SXiQ, a digital transformation services firm specializing in cloud applications, cloud platforms, and cloud cybersecurity, according to IBM last month.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Organizations are increasingly turning to multiple cloud providers to meet a broad range of business needs, IBM said.

The acquisition further advances IBM’s hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy by helping enterprises “modernize and transform complex mission-critical applications on multiple clouds and platforms.”

SXiQ will join IBM Consulting’s Hybrid Cloud Services business, helping IBM capitalize on the growing cloud professional services market.

SXiQ will enhance IBM Consulting’s capabilities in Australia and New Zealand.

SXiQ’s team of technology consultants brings expertise transforming and migrating enterprise workloads on cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.

SXiQ works with Australian enterprises and the Australian operations of global “Fortune 2000” companies, including optimizing their cloud spending.

The deal is the 20the acquisition — and tenth consulting acquisition — since Arvind Krishna became IBM’s CEO in April 2020.
